Wreckers yard goes up in flames north of Brisbane, crews pulled back for safety

A saw accidentally hitting a fuel tank is believed to have sparked a fire that broke out at a business north of Brisbane.

Emergency services, including six firefighting crews, were called about 10am on Saturday to A1 Car Wreckers used-car and wrecking business on South Pine Road at Brendale.

Police said the contact between a saw and fuel tank sparked the flames that destroyed a shed on the premises.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the fire was under control 20 minutes after the initial call but firefighters were still on scene to put out the blaze.

“There are issues regarding building safety during the fire because the overhead rafters have been burnt out,” he said.

“Because of it, they’ve had to pull back crews for safety.”

The spokesman said everyone was out of the building by the time crews had arrived.

Paramedics were at the scene and on stand-by for firefighters.

Commuters were advised to find an alternate bus stop as a Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesman said the South Pine Road bus stop would be temporarily unavailable due to the fire.
